PRANAYAMA TEACHER TRAINING COURSE

At Pranayama teacher training we teach about the science of Yogic breathing. Taking a breath is the first and the last action, which all living beings do in their lifetime. Therefore, breathing is the one constant truth we all have. Without breath, there is no life. But we hardly take notice of our breath in our daily life.

Daily stress, tensions and physical habits can create physical and energetic obstacles in our bodies. Without even noticing, our breathing becomes gradually more shallow or stilted. Bit by bit we develop unconscious breathing patterns restricting the flow of breath and Prana. Because of that so many among us suffer from bad breathing patterns and they have no idea that they are suffering from the ailment.

What is Pranayama?

Pranayama is roughly translated as extension of the life force. The word is composed by joining two Sanskrit words: ‘Prana’, which means the life force, and ‘Ayama’, which means to expand Prana by implying a set of breathing techniques. So, the breath is intentionally altered in order to produce specific results.

Benefits of Pranayama Course

The practice of pranayama helps in clearing the physical and emotional obstacles in our body to free the breath. Because of that with regular and sustained practice of pranayama, one feels the change in thought patterns and a new boost of energy in the body. Furthermore you reach higher levels of consciousness.

At Vedic Yoga Academy, when we work on freeing the breath through pranayama (breathing exercises). We also work on letting the life energy flow through the body. It has the effect of energizing, relaxing and healing the body, letting everything fall into place. Consequently, it is an increase and balance of life energy in your system.

Pranayama Training Course FAQs

What exactly is a Pranayama Teacher Training, and why would I take it?

Many people think of pranayama as just “breathing exercises,” but it’s far deeper than that. A Pranayama Teacher Training is a dedicated program where you learn not only how to practice ancient yogic breathing techniques, but also how to teach them with depth and authenticity.

At Vedic Yoga Academy, we see pranayama as a bridge between body, mind, and pranic heart. By training with us, you’ll discover how conscious breathwork transforms energy, balances emotions, and prepares the mind for meditation Sadhana.

How long does the training last, and what’s the daily routine like?

Our 200-hour Pranayama Teacher Training runs for 26 days. Each day is fully immersive, structured yet spacious enough to help you absorb the teachings.

A typical day includes:

  • Morning breath awareness and cleansing practices
  • Theory sessions on the philosophy and science of pranayama
  • Guided pranayama techniques and their variations
  • Evening satsang, reflection, or meditation

This rhythm allows you to live in harmony with the practices, not just study them.

Is pranayama only about health benefits, or does it go deeper?

It’s true that pranayama supports physical health, strengthens lungs, reduces stress, and increases vitality. But in the yogic tradition, its purpose goes much further, it awakens prana (life force), refines awareness, and opens the door to meditation and higher states of consciousness.

At our academy, we integrate both Vedic and Vedantic wisdom, ensuring you experience pranayama as a complete spiritual discipline—not just a wellness tool.

Do I need prior experience in yoga or pranayama to join?

Not necessarily. Many of our students arrive with a basic yoga background, while others are advanced practitioners. What matters most is your sincerity and openness. Our teachers guide you step by step, making sure every technique is learned safely and progressively.

What makes this training different from online courses or short workshops?

Short workshops often teach just the surface—one or two techniques. Our training is immersive and residential, giving you the time to live pranayama every day, surrounded by the supportive energy.

Here, you don’t just “learn about” pranayama, you embody it. By the end, you’ll not only understand the techniques but also carry the traditional wisdom to share them with others in a truly authentic way.

Can I really teach pranayama after completing this course?

Yes. This training is designed to prepare you as both a practitioner and a teacher. You’ll learn not just how to practice, but also how to teach pranayama responsibly, explaining the purpose, benefits, and cautions of each technique.

We provide teaching methodology sessions, guided teaching practice, and feedback, so by the end, you feel confident leading both group classes and one-on-one sessions.

What happens after I complete the training?

You’ll receive a 200-hour Pranayama Teacher Training Certificate from Vedic Yoga Academy, recognized internationally. But beyond the certificate, you’ll carry something more valuable, a living experience of pranayama that you can continue to deepen and share.

Many graduates go on to:

  • Teach pranayama in yoga studios and wellness centers
  • Integrate breathwork into meditation and therapy practices
  • Use pranayama in schools, corporate settings, or healing spaces
  • Continue advanced studies in yoga and Ayurveda

I am wondering what the 26 days would look like, and what can be expected?

The 26 days of Pranayama Teacher Training are designed like a gradual unfolding, starting with the basics of breath awareness and steadily guiding you into the deeper dimensions of pranayama.

  • The first week feels like grounding. You’ll learn to sit correctly, connect with your natural breath, and begin with foundational techniques like diaphragmatic breathing and Nadi Shodhana. Cleansing practices (shatkarma) are also introduced to prepare the body.

  • By the second week, your energy shifts. You’ll explore dynamic practices like Kapalabhati and Bhastrika, calming ones like Ujjayi and Bhramari, and start experimenting with simple ratios. This is also where you begin your first teaching practice in a safe group setting.

  • The third week goes deeper. You’ll combine pranayama with bandhas (energy locks) and mudras (gestures) to channel prana, and explore Surya Bhedana and Chandra Bhedana. Daily philosophy sessions connect what you practice with the wisdom of yogic texts, and you’ll see how pranayama naturally leads into meditation.

  • The final days are about integration. You’ll refine your own sadhana (personal practice), lead full pranayama classes with feedback, and learn how to sequence and adapt techniques for students of different levels. By the time the closing ceremony arrives, you’ll feel confident—not only as a practitioner but as someone ready to share pranayama authentically.

Throughout the training, each day balances morning practice, theory, guided techniques, teaching methodology, and evening reflection. You can expect the rhythm of an ashram lifestyle: early mornings, nourishing vegetarian meals, time by the Ganges, and the supportive energy of like-minded seekers.
